Is Permanent Makeup for You?

When was the last time you felt confident enough to go makeup free?

Everybody’s got insecurities girl! I’ve got them. You’ve got them. The Kardashians have A LOT of them. But, as one of my favorite authors says, “Everything is figureoutable,” and yes, the paling of the lips and the thinning of lashes and brows that leaves us feeling not so confident is figureoutable and fixable!

Take a second and imagine with me for a moment. What if you could:

  • Restore the features of that beautiful face (think lips, eyes, brows) to their youthful tone and color?

  • Roll out of bed, skip your makeup routine, and rock your beauty?

  • “Wear” eyeliner again and not be plagued with red, watery eyes?

These are not pipe dreams, these are real problems that I’ve helped countless clients address in the last three years since I’ve been offering permanent makeup services.

You’ve Got Questions …

Great, I’ve got answers!

After doing permanent makeup for the last 3 years, I’ve answered just about every question you can think of. Here are the answers to our most commonly asked questions.

What are the most popular permanent makeup applications?

We’ve got a lot of physically fit and active women in Colorado. For that reason, the most popular permanent makeup services at The Skin Lounge are brow and eyeliner applications. Unlike microblading, the Ombre Brow technique can be performed on oily skin—and both permanent brows and eyeliner guarantee a natural, no smudge look—no matter how much you sweat! Other issues I routinely correct with permanent makeup include:

  • Thin lips

  • Pale lips

  • Thin lash lines

  • Sparse eyebrows

  • Hair loss

How long does permanent makeup last?

The beauty industry calls it permanent makeup, but permanent makeup is actually semi-permanent and lasts, on average, three to five years. Depending on where the pigment is placed, some makeup may fade sooner. For example, permanent pigment placed on the eyeline or the lash line may last one to three years, while pigment placed directly on the skin may take five years to fade. Fading can be attributed to factors such as your skin type, your age, how well your skin reacts to pigment, the amount of sun exposure you have, and the types of products that you use on your skin. Some of these are factors that you have no control over, while others are general lifestyle choices that can shorten or extend results.

Do permanent makeup applications hurt?

Permanent makeup is sometimes referred to as tattooed makeup because the process is similar to tattooing. In the case of permanent makeup, a needle is used to deposit ink into the first layers of the skin ONLY. With a body tattoo the needle goes much deeper. Your tolerance for pain certainly can come into play, but the application of a numbing cream prior to permanent makeup procedures typically eliminates most, if not all, discomfort.

Does that offer a bit of clarity?

We hope that’s helpful in answering any of your questions, but of course, feel free to hit “reply” and let us know what other question you may have, we’re here to help!

Rachel’s Experience

One of my clients, Rachel, is one of the most active women I know. She’s a hands-on mom to two young girls, an entrepreneur, and fitness coach. She came to me wanting to enhance her features with permanent makeup and cut back on the time she was spending “doing” her face each morning only to have a heavy workout cause it to run and wear off!

So was Rachel, but then she committed and she’s never looked back!

Looking at her features, I suggested we start with her brows. And not just because Ombre Powder Brows are all the rage, but for the reason that her beautifully arched, though somewhat thinning, brows had always been the feature of her face that she loved most.

Semi-permanent Ombre Brow Shading is one of my most popular treatments at The Skin Lounge, and for good reason! Ombre brows offer a softer, more natural brow than microblading—and lasts longer—on average 3 years! It's a subtle color treatment that adds depth to thinning, faded-out brows and can be applied to all skin types (unlike microblading which typically does not take to oily skin).

BEFORE: Rachel has beautiful brows! What she wanted was a little more definition and hassle-free color that would stay on during the toughest workout.

AFTER: Here are Rachel’s brows immediately following the permanent makeup application. In the 1-2 weeks following any permanent eyebrow application, color softens to reveal soft, stunningly natural looking brows.
